NORTH SOUTH GOA

Calangute (North Goa) is the most popular beach in Goa.
There are lots of places around the beach to stay.
The really quiet beach with the dolphins was kerim beach.
Calangute and Baga beaches are nice but very crowded and full of sellers.
Its about a 40 min taxi ride to Kerim from Baga/calangute, where u will find the Dolphin Shack, its a little bit of paradise!!

WEATHER: You couldn't have chosen a better time to visit Goa. October marks the start of the official tourist season here that lasts till March. Temperatures are likely to be around 15 degrees to 20 degrees centigrade. The monsoon lasts till late September, so you might catch a few odd showers but that is quite unlikely. The overall climate at this time of the year is made up of a cool temperature, clear blue sky and the water temperature just perfect for some bathing or just splashing around!

Now to choose between North and South Goa. North Goa has always been more "happening" compared to South Goa which is more serene and comparatively off the beaten track. Both offer lovely scenes and ultimately it is about your choice as to whether you'd like to have more "fun" like beach parties, nightlife, etc or a more private and less-crowded trip. The trick is to strike a balance between them. I see that you will be in Goa from the 8th to 14th of October. My suggestion is to divide them into two halves of 4 days and 2 days for North and South Goa respectively.
North Goa includes the very best of Goan beach scenes with the Anjuna Beach and the charmingCalangute. Apart from the sand and the surf, there are also the churches; Basilica of Bom Jesus,Se Cathedral, the capital Panaji or Panjim and of course the pristine Old GoaSouth Goa, has the virgin beach of Palolem, the Arvalem CavesBenaulim Beach and the Colva Beach. I'll be talking about them in detail.

THE SIGHTS:
The Beaches ~
  • Calangute and Baga Beach: The Calangute is known as the Queen of all Goan beaches. So, if you are talking about must-see, this place comes first. These beaches were the favorite haunt of hippies even a few years ago. A government crackdown as stopped the trance flow but you can still feel the rhythm flowing sometimes.

  • Anjuna Beach: Arguably  the most visited beach in Goa with a picturesque coconut grove in the backdrop and a famous flea market in the vicinity.
  • Palolem Beach: This is a very serene beach, quite contrary to the colorful and vibrant Calangute. A must see for a touch of solitude and peace.
  • Colva Beach: This little patch of paradise brings about the very best of coastal beauty challenged in the Goan land by perhaps only the Calangute. Pride of Salcete, this is a must see locale.

North Goa AND SOUTH GOA

North Goa is delightful with rocky coves surrounding palm fringed beaches. There is some nightlife and people are friendly there.
Dont miss ANJUNA market for bargains (I think its on Fridays)
South Goa is more laid back with long (20km ) beaches and its very restful
There is a nice Holiday Inn right on the beach there
Great place for a holiday.
Vendors wander along the beaches tring to sell you fruit .souvenirs and clothes.
Tip - Go to a tailor - its cheaper than buying ready made clothes.
Fish is great and there are a number of seafood restaurants on the beach including little shacks who will cook snacks for you.
Avoid Fenney - its a local drink but really cheap.
Do not buy drugs - most drug dealers will inform on you to the police and work as informers (so I am told - I never do drugs so thats hearsay)
There are full moon parties if you are young and active - these are usually at Anjuna.
